Privacy Policy
LazyMemo is a desktop application. Out of the box it works entirely on your computer and the developer runs no server that receives your data. A few optional features can send data to third-party services that you choose and configure yourself; this policy lists exactly which, what is sent, and how to keep them off.
Summary
- Default behaviour: memos, images and OCR stay on your device. No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising.
- Optional features (cloud OCR, AI tidy-up, email reminders) are off by default. They are part of LazyMemo Pro and only work after you unlock Pro and enter your own credentials.
- The developer never receives your memos, images, API keys, email passwords or email content. Data goes straight from your computer to the service you selected.
What the app stores on your device

Your memos, reminder times, imported text and email-reminder
queue are stored in a SQLite database file inside your
Windows user profile (
%APPDATA%). - Images you drop or paste in are stored locally alongside the memo they belong to.
- Settings (theme, language, launch-at-startup, reminder defaults, and the provider, model, server address and email addresses you enter for optional features) are stored locally in the same location.

Credentials (API keys and the SMTP password) are
encrypted with Windows-protected storage through Electron's
safeStorageand saved as separate files in the app's data folder. They are not kept in the memo database. Clearing a credential in Settings deletes its file.
You can copy, back up or delete this data yourself at any time. Uninstalling the application removes it, and deleting a memo in the app deletes it from the database.
What the developer collects
Nothing. There is no LazyMemo account or sign-in, no analytics and no crash reporting, and the developer receives no personal data from the application.
Text recognition (OCR)
Default — local OCR. Recognition runs on your device using bundled Tesseract language data for English and Simplified Chinese. Images are not uploaded, and this mode works with no network connection.
Optional — cloud OCR (Pro, off by default). If you
switch the OCR provider to cloud OCR and enter your own API key, each
image you import is resized (up to 2048 px wide), converted to JPEG and
sent to api.openai.com together with a short instruction to
extract the visible text. The recognised text comes back and is saved
in your memo. Screenshots may contain sensitive information, so enable
this only if you are comfortable sending them to that provider. The
provider handles the image under its own terms and privacy policy.
AI tidy-up of memos (LLM)
Off by default (Pro). When you choose a provider
(OpenAI, or an OpenAI-compatible service at an address you enter) and
supply your own API key, the text of a memo you are creating — typed,
pasted, or produced by OCR — is sent to that service, limited to the
first 4,000 characters, so it can suggest a title, a cleaned-up body and
a short reminder message. The address must use HTTPS, except for
localhost / loopback addresses, which lets you point the
app at a model running on your own machine so nothing leaves it. If the
request fails, the app falls back to its local result. Retention and use
of the data are governed by the provider you selected, not by the
developer.
Email reminders
Off by default (Pro). If you enable email reminders and enter an SMTP server, username, password and from/to addresses, then for each memo where you turn on the email option, the app sends a message containing the memo's title and reminder text (or body) from your computer to your SMTP server, which delivers it to the recipient address you set. Unsent messages are queued in the local database and retried, for up to ten attempts, if the server is unreachable. The connection is required to use TLS. Your mail provider and the recipient's mail system handle the message under their own policies.
Notifications
Reminders use the native Windows notification system. The notification text is generated on your device and handed to Windows; the app does not send it anywhere else. (Email reminders, above, are a separate opt-in feature.)
Pro unlock and the Microsoft Store
LazyMemo is distributed through the Microsoft Store, and Pro is an in-app purchase handled entirely by the Store. To decide whether Pro features are available, the app asks Windows and the Microsoft Store whether your Microsoft account owns the Pro product. That check and the payment are processed by Microsoft under Microsoft's privacy statement. LazyMemo does not use its own license keys or activation server, and the developer does not see your account, payment details or purchase identity. Microsoft also collects its own data about downloads and installs, which is outside the developer's control.
Other network access
Apart from the optional features and the Store check described above, the app makes no network requests of its own and works offline. Links you click inside the app open in your default browser.
Third-party services and your responsibility
When you enable an optional feature you are choosing to share the data described above with that provider, and you are responsible for the account, API key and fees with them. Please check that sending the content (for example screenshots that show other people's information) is permitted under the provider's terms and any rules that apply to you. You can stop at any time by switching the OCR provider back to local, setting the AI provider to none, turning email reminders off or clearing the credential. Data already delivered to a provider is under that provider's control and must be deleted through them. The developer does not control how long these providers keep data; check each provider's retention and data-deletion options before enabling its feature.
This website
This site is a static page hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies and runs no advertising or tracking scripts. If cookie-free aggregate analytics are enabled, they record page views without cookies and without any information that identifies you as an individual. Cloudflare processes standard server request logs as part of delivering the site.
Children
LazyMemo is not directed at children, and the developer collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes — in particular if a new feature sends data off your device — the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top before that version ships.
